There are so many ways to make flying geese, but my favorite way is to make them oversized and them trim them to the correct size. Today I’m going to show you my two favorite methods for making oversized flying geese and several ways of trimming them. I’ve also included a cutting chart for each method that you can download and print for handy reference!

She sifts through stacks of orphan blocks at yard sales and antique shops, imagining the quilters who started – but never finished – so many years ago.
When Jenny spotted a long-forgotten Mother’s Choice block, she fell in love! And then…she used a sprinkling of Missouri Star magic to make that pattern new again!
Mother’s Choice Remake is a beautiful, simplified version of the old-fashioned Mother’s Choice. This pretty jelly roll quilt is made easy with half-square triangles, flying geese, snowballed corners, and – best of all – zero Y-seams!

Tamara’s fabric is a blend of the cultures and geographic regions she has spent her life. Born in Canada, raised in the Caribbean and then spending her adult life back in Canada, Tamara is always longing for the colors and warm weather of spring and summer. That love of warmth, foliage and the bright colors of her youth are on full display in Aerial.

read moreSeems like it has been a crazy busy week. How can this be when it is mostly spent at home? A lot is due to just having a bit of warmer weather, and getting a bit of cabin fever to dig in the dirt. We went on a drive to map out a route for a MINI club drive and had a delicious barbeque lunch in Dillsboro. My Sweet Babboo brought me a surprise this week. He thought I needed some fresh flowers for the kitchen and table. He chose this lovely bouquet of alstroemeria in a mostly green color ...

I started noticing this summer that my blue scrap bin was nearing maximum capacity. Of course I ignored it. So when I got it out this fall, all of the scraps that I have been carefully tucking in would not go back into the bin. I had to make a few quilts!
A lot of the scraps were fairly large and chunky - so I thought I would use my Well-Suited Scrap Mixology pattern to make a blue and white quilt. I have been wanting to play with the "woven" layout with a flying geese center - I think it turned out ...

This is Quilt 1 which I created for the My Red Wagon collection by Debbie Busby for Henry Glass. I am smitten by the textures and colors of these fabrics and so happy I was able to work with them! The prints spell ‘cozy’ with plaids and paisleys and are versatile as well because they include whimsical motifs for the entire year. Debbie was inspired!
Debbie worked with a primitive palette, imbuing each fabric with ...

The Dutch Puzzle block is what inspired this quilt. The center of this quilt is a recolored version of a Dutch Puzzle, and then I added a ring of additional flying geese around the outside… since this is a wall-hanging size quilt, I named it the Puzzletje quilt. Obviously the “puzzle” comes from the Dutch […]
